Agricultural mutual aid is strictly reserved for exchanges between professionals. It is subject to compliance with article L325-1 of the rural code:
> Agricultural mutual aid is carried out between farmers through exchanges of services in terms of labor and means of exploitation, including those coming as an extension of the act of production. It can be occasional, temporary or occur on a regular basis. Mutual aid is a free contract, even when the beneficiary reimburses the service provider all or part of the costs incurred by the latter. When it is practiced in an operation subject to the authorization regime for marine culture operations, mutual aid must give rise to the establishment of a written contract.
